What is Lisa in Colour?

A design and interiors newsletter for those who love living with colour and personality. Lisa in Colour is about making a home that feels like an extension of yourself—whether that means painting your fireplace bubblegum pink, tiling your own backsplash, or hunting down the perfect vintage lamp.

It’s also about things. Beautiful, useful, weird and wonderful objects that tell a story. I’m always on the lookout—for new products from my favourite brands big and small (Dusen Dusen, Quiet Town, Tekla), estate sale finds, or a piece so perfect that it requires an impromptu negotiation with a MoMA Design Store sales rep (more on that later).

How often do you publish?

Once a week on Fridays.

Columns might explore a design philosophy (like the art of mismatching), unpack a trend, offer styling guidance, or reflect on the evolving nature of the home. Sometimes, I dig into where interiors and fashion overlap — a good colour palette is a good colour palette, whether it’s on a rug or a sweater.

The second half of each column is The Colour List — a collection of discoveries from the week: home accessories, vintage finds, books, dreamy palettes, or just objects that made me stop scrolling. Sometimes it’s tied to a theme or trend, like this post about tiles. Occasionally, I’ll include something from outside the home — a pair of boots I can’t stop thinking about, or a colour-soaked travel destination.

Randomly, I’ll share thoughts on life, too—on collecting or creativity. These often will read like diary entries, sometimes longer or sometimes just a passing thought.

Really what I hope for is community. Lisa in Colour is not only a place for me to express my creative side, but a hub for likeminded people who want to talk about colour and design in a way that isn’t so ridged or exclusive.

Who am I?

I’m Lisa, a lifelong design enthusiast and maximalist at heart. I’ve been documenting the DIY renovation of my century-old home on Instagram, where I share my latest projects—like my pink painted fireplace and grid-tiled kitchen backsplash I did myself. I buy and sell vintage housewares for fun and during the strange pandemic years, I even ran a small brick-and-mortar vintage shop.

My love for interiors started early—at 11, my parents let me tear up the carpet in my and my brother’s bedrooms and paint the wooden subfloor black with silver and teal spray accents (I have the photos to prove it somewhere). As a teenager, while my friends were going to movies, I was begging my parents to take me to Ikea to wander the displays. On my 16th birthday, I got a papasan chair and remember thinking it was the best day of my life.

I still tell people that the best thing my partner of 12 years has ever done for me is convince the MoMA Design Store sales rep to sell him the floor model of the Bodum toaster collab because it was the last one in stock, and they won’t ship it to Canada.

This lifelong obsession with design has been woven into my career. I’ve worked in both print and digital lifestyle editorial where I’ve led teams of writers and photographers. Back in the day I was the Style editor at Sympatico/MSN and after that, served as the editor-in-chief of two different Canadian lifestyle print publications.

With Lisa in Colour, I’m bringing my passion for design and my editorial expertise together—creating a space for people who love interiors that feel alive.

How much is a subscription and what do I get?

$6 a month, or $50 a year (which means you save $22—enough to thrift yourself something pretty)

As a paying subscriber, you can expect:

  • The ability to comment and connect on both Tuesday and Friday newsletter posts (I’d love to hear about your own design discoveries or dilemmas).

  • Access to exclusive Friday posts, where I share the best of what I’ve found that week—things to shop, things to read, things to be inspired by.

  • The occasional deep-dive post for subscribers only, where I explore niche design topics in more detail.

Welcome to Lisa in Colour. I’m so happy you’re here.
